Management Is a Bandwidth Problem

The job is not knowing. The job is allocating attention.

[ trace // field response ]

New managers think their job is knowing the answers. Experienced managers know their job is allocating attention — theirs, the team’s, the org’s — across a problem space that always exceeds the supply.

The hardest skill is not deciding what to work on. It is deciding what to publicly stop caring about, so that the team can stop spending compute on it too. Every unmade decision is a leak.

Spend the bandwidth like it costs real money. It does.
