Suburban terrier preferred being only dog — squirrels barked at, sun naps kept, other dogs declined by policy.

Spaniel puppy arrived with tail already wagging. Growl met wag; nap met persistence.

Months: grumble versus follow. Paw on head during nap — small yip, not surrender.

Tug-of-war, backyard chase, chilly nights shared by accident then by choice.

Only dog fantasy retired without ceremony. Friend more valuable than monopoly on attention.

Happily ever after is declined. Accurate is they kept playing until the family stopped worrying.
