Hardware Is a Deadline

Atoms do not patch on Tuesday.

[ trace // field response ]

Software is forgiving in a way that hardware never is. You can ship a bug, write a hotfix, push it out by lunch. Hardware ships and then it is in the world, in someone’s hand, drawing current from a battery that does not care about your roadmap.

Engineers who cross from software into hardware learn this fast. Every revision has a cost measured in tooling, in supply chain lead time, in the patience of customers holding a device that cannot be silently fixed at 2am.

The discipline travels well in the other direction. Treat at least one of your software releases per quarter as if it were hardware. The standards rise immediately.
