Every abstraction is a bet that the differences it papers over will not matter. The bet pays off when the underlying details stay irrelevant. It bankrupts you when the details surge back into relevance and the abstraction starts lying to its callers.
The skill is not avoiding abstractions. It is choosing the ones whose losing case you can afford. Premature abstractions are bets placed before the game has even started.
Stay liquid. Abstract late, on purpose, against a real second use case.
