What Basil Essential Oil May Offer for Mental Fatigue
Herbaceous oils can mark a transition from work mode to off mode — if you keep doses low.

Basil on the air is a bright-herb slap, useful for about twenty minutes. I use it in the afternoon when reading has gone mushy and I want a green, peppery cue to sit back down. I do not live in it all day. All-day basil is how a clarifying note becomes a headache you blame on the work.
Short diffusion in a ventilated space. Ten to fifteen minutes, then off. Chemotypes differ (linalool versus the sharper methyl-chavicol types), so read the label if you have a choice. I skip neat skin use. If it goes on a wrist it is heavily diluted in a carrier, away from eyes.
This is not medical advice. Basil oil may help some people feel less foggy for a stretch. It does not cure mental fatigue and it does not replace food, water, or a break. Keep pets out of the breathing zone. Store away from heat. Avoid during pregnancy unless a practitioner says otherwise.
I treat it as a transition scent, not a habitat. Diffuser on means one more focused pass. Off means I stop pretending the herb will finish the ticket. If the room still smells like pesto after an hour, I used too much.
